THE FASCISTS OF GHANAIAN POLITICS PDF Print E-mail
Written by Isaac Anim
Fascists and Fascism are despised the globe all over for their fundamental trait of feeling they have a Divine Right to Rule. In fact they have the conviction that they are superior to any other assemblage of individuals and hence naturally deserve to be at the apex of the national hierarchy.

A critical assessment of developments in Ghanaian Politics reveals a repetitive conduct and familiar trend among a particular political tradition which is undoubtedly aligned (or at least parallel) with Fascist’s principles and beliefs. Nonetheless, over the years front runners of this tradition have appeared firm and well structured in pursuing their egotistical agenda making it difficult for political scientists and researchers to come out with literatures to expose their true identity.

Secondly, this tradition has been able to strategically devise various means to swindle and lure many innocent and uninformed people to accept their political ideology. This political tradition thrives on a farce of being at the vanguard of liberal democracy and will employ all means to safeguard and protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all and sundry. It is very intriguing to find out how a group that opposed the Avoidance of Discrimination Act could pass the Alliance Compliance Order. The resolution to make Ghana a One Party State was that of the Constitutional Parliament of the First Republic which they as usual criticised. Nevertheless, they were the same people who banned the CPP and leading CPP members from contesting the 1969 elections.

This tradition employed all means doable to thwart the efforts of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and engaged the most diabolical measures to slow down the granting of Independence and the economic and infrastructural development in the early years of post independence Ghana. They masterminded events like the Kulungugu bombing and even went further to proscribe the display of effigies of the Osagyefo after his overthrow. This is the tradition that began with the formation of an elite organisation known as the United Gold Coast Convention and were willing negotiate with the colonial masters to change the phase of colonisation from that with white colonial masters at the forefront to one with an educated black elites at the forefront being controlled by their superior colonial bosses (the Apostles of Neo-colonialism).

No wonder they were prepared to engage in dialogue with apartheid South Africa which was in contravention with the stance of the Organisation of African Unity. Clearly they could not stand the youthful exuberance and charisma of the Osagyefo and did all they could including betraying him after the declaration of Positive Action leading to his arrest and imprisonment. This tradition blamed the colonial masters for rigging the 1951 and 1954 for the CPP. They also went further to blame the Osagyefo for rigging the 1956 Plebiscite in Trans Volta Togoland. They continued to blame Flt Lt Rawlings for rigging the 1979 elections for ex President Hilla Limann and also for rigging the 1992 and 1996 elections for the NDC. Ironically the same Rawlings administration supervised the 2000 General Elections that ended their almost thirty years in the political wilderness. They are quick to justify the 1966 coup and even described the 1981 PNDC Coup as a long awaited one (Victor Owusu) and sent John Kufour(now President Kufour) to represent their interest in the PNDC.

They saw nothing wrong with the 1969 elections when the CPP and all leading members of the CPP were banned from participating. In a nut shell, like the Animal Farm, whatever suits their interest and narrow-minded interest is GOOD and whatever hinders their desire to amass wealth and enforce their social status is BAD.
