CPP, United Kingdom and Ireland is the official representation and branch of the Convention People's Party in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

History of The CPP In The United Kingdom and Ireland
The United Kingdom has always been a very important place for the CPP. It was at Manchester, UK in 1945 that the 5th Pan-African Congress – 5th PAC, was held; where Nkrumah and other future Leaders of Africa drew inspiration and went on to liberate their countries. Dr Nkrumah thus journeyed from the UK to Ghana to make his contribution to the struggle to free the then Gold Coast from colonialism. Throughout the CPP’s independent period in government (1957 – 1966) there was a significant presence of the CPP in the UK. Centred around the Ghana High Commission, London. That presence continued after the 1966 treason against the elected CPP government, with many CPP members in exile. It centred on “The Dawn Group” who published an Nkrumahist Newsletter – The Dawn.

During the third Republic under Dr Limann’s People’s National Party (PNP) government, an active PNP branch represented CPP interests in the United Kingdom and Ireland because with the mother party CPP still banned Nkrumaists and CPPists grouped largely under the PNP. Following the coup of 1981 PNP/CPP members found themselves again in exile. Many in the United Kingdom had and maintained links with the Kwame Nkrumah Revolutionary Guards (KNRG) in Ghana and other Kwame Nkrumah Welfare groups. With the unset of a new constitutional era under the current 4th Republican constitution., CPP/PNP members and sympathisers re-grouped  in 1991 as Kwame Nkrumah – CPP (Overseas) –  (KN-CPP), under the Chairmanship of Nana Sintim Aboagye. Among the Executive at the time were the late E.A Mahama, The late Mrs Grace Y. Akomfrah, K. Ofosu-Hene, Kwabena Amponsah, Mrs S. Nantogmah, and the late K. Owusu-Afriyie.  When the ban on party politics was officially lifted for the 1992 elections, Nkrumahists in Ghana were divided into the National Independent Party (NIP), People’s Heritage Party (PHP), The National Convention Party (NCP),  Popular Party for Democracy and Development (PPDD) and the People’s National Convention. The KN-CPP in the United Kingdom maintained a united front in the United Kingdom for Nkrumaists. Whilst many in the UK had allegiances with NIP, PHP, NCP or PNC in Ghana, formal branches did not take-off the ground and the KN-CPP remained the united front in the UK, and continued to push for unity of all Nkrumaists parties in Ghana. After the defeat of the Nkrumahist parties in the elections there was renewed effort for unity by the Nkrumahist parties in Ghana.

In the UK Nkrumahists and other progressives were called to a meeting in 1993 which has come to be known in UK records as “The Mike Eghan Show”. The Mike Eghan show elected from its gathering a 5 man Working Committee (WC) to re-build the party in the United Kingdom. The 5 man WC comprised  K. Antwi-Nimoh, M. Stella Dontoh, R.O Frimpong –Manso, Bright Oduro-Kwateng, Richard Horsley and Nii L. Engmann. The WC was later expanded to include Explo Nani-Kofi and RNA Akomfrah. As the splintered parties have regrouped through the various unity attempts, the UK has responded to become the Branch of the main and core Nkrumahist grouping/party in Ghana. Thus the 1993 Working Committee working to build a CPP branch and to spread the message of Nkrumahism metamorphosised into the People’s Convention Party(PCP) – UK& Ireland;  Convention Party(CP) – UK& Ireland;  and then Convention People’s  Party(CPP) – UK& Ireland, when the CPP was finally un-banned. The Chairmanship since 1993 has been held by Kojo Antwi-Nimoh (1993 – 1999); the late Dr Kojo Hanson (1999-2002) RNA Akomfrah – Current Chairman. Bright Oduro-Kwateng has served as the Vice Chair, to all the 3 Chairs in the CPP UK & Ireland Branch since 1993.
